Ruth Caruthers became an advocate for CHD and pulse ox screening after the death of her three month old son, Corbin, due to complications from heart defects. Less then a year after his passing, Ruth helped pass Corbin’s Bill, requiring pulse ox screenings on every newborn born in West Virginia.

Since then, Ruth has been involved with different organizations as an advocate, spreading awareness of CHD and the importance of pulse ox screening, all the way to the White House. Corbin has been memorialized through Corbin’s Bill and The Corbin Story Fund, a non-profit dedicated to CHD and pulse ox awareness, education, and to provide child loss support group in the local community.
